Coventry is full of gyms. This one coaches every set.

Nobody in Coventry is short of somewhere to lift, from 24-hour budget gyms to the big chains. What is harder to find is a coach who writes your programme, watches every rep and remembers how last week went. That is the whole model here: programmed strength and conditioning in small coached cohorts, capped at seven people, with a coach on the floor for every session.

We are not in Coventry, and we will not pretend to be. Physical Formula is a private unit on Rigby Close, on the southern edge of Royal Leamington Spa, and most of the drive from the city is the A46. From Finham, Styvechale or the University of Warwick it takes about twenty minutes outside rush hour; from Walsgrave or Tile Hill, nearer twenty-five. You park for free right outside the door.

Everyone starts the same way, with a free fifteen minute discovery call. If the drive is what is giving you pause, say so on the call and we will work out together whether our sessions fit around your week.

Worth the A46

Five things the drive actually buys you.

Twenty minutes in the car only makes sense if something different is waiting at the other end. This is what changes when a Coventry gym membership becomes a place in a coached cohort.

01

A coach on every set

In a big open-plan gym you are on your own from the turnstile to the showers. Here a coach watches your bracing, bar path and tempo all session and corrects them as they happen, whether you have lifted for years or never held a barbell.

02

A plan that is ready when you arrive

Your training block is written in advance and progresses week by week before it is tested. You will never spend twenty minutes on the A46 only to stand on the floor wondering what to do next.

03

Seven people, never more

Cohorts are capped at seven, so the coach can see everyone and the kit is free when your programme calls for it. After the drive, you start training straight away instead of queueing for a rack.

04

HYROX and strength under one roof

We are an official HYROX Training Club. If a race is in the diary, the sled, SkiErg, wall-ball and running work is coached here alongside your strength sessions and built up in blocks towards race week. The HYROX coaching page explains how.

05

The same faces every week

You hold regular weekly slots, so the people around you become familiar fast. Names get learned and absences get noticed, which is a big part of what turns a twenty-minute drive into a habit rather than a chore.

From the city centre

The A46 does most of the work.

Leave the ring road on London Road (A4114) and pick up the A46 southbound. Stay on it past Stoneleigh and Kenilworth to Longbridge roundabout, take the M40 south for one junction to J14, then follow the A452 Europa Way to Heathcote Lane. Rigby Close is just off Heathcote Way.

~22min Rigby Close Europa Way, Heathcote Lane, park outside

Your satnav may send you off the A46 at the A429 instead, through Warwick and along Gallows Hill. Outside rush hour the two routes take about the same time; when Warwick is busy, the M40 hop keeps you out of the town centre altogether.

~20min

Finham, Styvechale, Cheylesmore and Willenhall

You already start on the right side of the city. Join the A46 at the southern edge of Coventry and you are on fast road for almost the whole journey down.

~21min

Earlsdon, Canley and the University of Warwick

Take Kenilworth Road or Gibbet Hill Road down to Stoneleigh Road, then join the A46 southbound at the Stoneleigh junction. A handy run if you work or study on the university campus.

~22min

City centre and Whitley

Out along London Road (A4114) towards Whitley, then onto the A46 southbound. This is the route mapped out step by step in the section above.

~24min

Binley, Stoke, Wyken and Walsgrave

Pick up the A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass and follow the A46 all the way south. Working shifts at University Hospital? Sessions start at 06:15 on weekdays and run into the evening.

~26min

Tile Hill, Allesley, Radford and the north

The longest runs from inside the city. From the west, Westwood Way and Gibbet Hill Road bring you to the Stoneleigh junction; from further north, let the satnav pick the quickest way round the ring road to the A46. Allow half an hour at busier times.

Timing

Four windows that suit a Coventry week.

Early From 06:15, Monday to Friday

Set off before the morning peak builds, train, and you can still be back in the city for a normal office start.

Mid-morning After the school run

Drop the children at school, take the A46 once the morning traffic has thinned, and be home well before pick-up. Ask which mid-morning slots are open on your discovery call.

Evening Until 20:00, Monday to Friday

A later slot gives the after-work traffic time to clear before you leave Coventry, and the roads home are quieter too.

Saturday 07:30 to 12:00

Weekend roads, a coached session, and back in Coventry in time for lunch with the rest of the day still yours.

At the end of the drive

Coached by Martin and Olivia.

Martin Browne and Olivia Kreigenfeld founded Physical Formula together. Martin, the Head Coach, has been coaching since 2003 and leads the HYROX programming; Olivia is the Performance Coach. Meet them both properly before your first visit.

“They are amazing coaches who take the time to check in during sessions, and you never need to think about what you are doing as you are told. Looking forward to staying at PF and seeing where it takes me. I never thought I’d look forward to a 6am HYROX session, but I do.”

Amy FludeGoogle review

“What I thought might be something I join for a few months to kickstart getting back into the gym has ended up with me still being here 3 years later. Stronger, faster and doing things I never thought I would ever put myself forward for.”

Kiren RaiGoogle review

“I achieved more in that year than I did in five years in a normal gym following an app. The coaches genuinely care about your progress and the programming is spot on.”

Coventry questions

Before you set off from Coventry.

How long is the drive from Coventry?

Outside rush hour, around 20 minutes from Finham, Styvechale and Cheylesmore, 20 to 25 minutes from the city centre, Earlsdon and Binley, and 25 to 30 minutes from Tile Hill, Allesley and Keresley in the north and west. Most of the journey is on the A46, and Rigby Close sits on the southern edge of Royal Leamington Spa, close to junctions 14 and 15 of the M40.

Which is the best route from Coventry?

The simplest is the A46 southbound to Longbridge roundabout, one junction south on the M40 to J14, then the A452 Europa Way to Heathcote Lane and Heathcote Way. Some satnavs take you off the A46 at the A429 instead, through Warwick and along Gallows Hill. Off peak the two are about even; at busy times the M40 hop avoids Warwick town centre.

What time should I train if I work in Coventry?

Either end of the working day tends to suit best. Weekday doors open at 06:15 and sessions run until 20:00, so you can train before work or let the evening traffic ease first. Saturday mornings run from 07:30 to 12:00, and there are daytime slots for flexible workers and parents doing a school run. Tell us your week on the discovery call and we will suggest slots that fit.

Is parking free when I arrive?

Yes. There is free on-site parking directly outside the unit, with no permit and no time limit, so the drive ends right at the door.

I’m a complete beginner. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Most new members are beginners or people coming back after a break. Every session is coached and cohorts are capped at seven, so from your first visit someone is watching your technique and adjusting the plan around you.

How do I get started?

Everyone starts with a free fifteen minute discovery call, where we talk through your goals, your week and the drive from Coventry. If it feels right, you begin with the 6 Week Experience, a paid, coached six-week block. Full details are on the Getting Started page.

How much does it cost to train here?

Coached small group training usually costs more than a commercial gym membership and less than one-to-one personal training, and the exact figure depends on how many sessions a week you want. We go through pricing on your discovery call. Send an enquiry and a coach will reply within 24 hours.
